A latte is one of the most popular coffee drinks in the world, known for its smooth, mild flavor and creamy texture. Coffee itself is incredibly versatile, with many different preparation styles that highlight different aspects of the coffee bean.
Among all of these variations, the latte stands out for its wide appeal and balanced taste. It is especially popular in the United States, where it has become a go-to choice for many coffee drinkers. But what exactly goes into a latte, and how does it compare with other espresso-based drinks?
How a Latte Is Made
A traditional caffè latte starts with espresso, which is made from finely ground, roasted coffee beans. Once the espresso is prepared, steamed milk is added to create the signature creamy blend.
On top, a light layer of milk foam is usually added to finish the drink. The typical ratio used in a latte is about one part espresso to two parts steamed milk, resulting in a smooth and milder coffee flavor.
Latte vs Cappuccino
Many people wonder how a latte differs from a cappuccino since they share the same basic ingredients: espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam.
The main difference lies in the proportions. A latte contains a higher amount of milk compared to espresso, making it softer and less intense in flavor. A cappuccino, on the other hand, uses a more even balance of espresso, milk, and foam.
Because of this, cappuccinos usually have a stronger coffee taste and slightly more caffeine impact, while lattes feel creamier and gentler on the palate. Both drinks can also be made with alternatives like oat milk or soy milk without changing their overall structure.
Variations of Latte Drinks
One of the reasons lattes are so popular is their flexibility. The term “latte” is often used not only for espresso-based drinks but also for beverages that follow a similar milk-forward structure.
There are many creative variations, such as matcha lattes made with green tea powder, flavored versions like pumpkin spice lattes, or combinations such as macchiato-style lattes. Each version keeps the creamy milk base while introducing new flavors.
Enjoying Lattes at Coffee Shops
Coffee shops around the world, including specialty cafés, offer a wide range of latte drinks made with high-quality coffee and carefully steamed milk.
These beverages are designed to be smooth, comforting, and easy to enjoy whether you’re on the go or relaxing in a café. With so many flavor options available, it’s easy to find a latte that matches your personal taste preferences.

Succulent Plants: The Perfect Indoor Greenery
I have always found it a little ironic that plants adapted to hot, arid desert environments are called “succulents.” To me, the word suggests biting into juicy fruit on a warm summer day. In reality, succulent plants are highly efficient water-storing specialists. Their thick, protected tissues allow them to hold moisture and survive for surprisingly long periods with only tiny amounts of water. Their unusual shapes and relatively simple care requirements have also made them extremely popular among indoor gardeners.
