You’ve probably seen many different kinds of shapes in everyday life. Understanding various shapes is essential because it helps us draw a wide range of objects. Most fruits and vegetables can be simplified into basic geometric forms.

For example, many fruits are circular or spherical, so when drawing an apple or an orange, it’s best to start with a circle or sphere. Vegetables like carrots or radishes often resemble cones. By learning to draw these basic shapes, you can easily create more complex drawings. Let’s dive in and get started!

Spherical Fruits

Many fruits, such as apples, oranges, pomegranates, and pineapples, are based on a circular or spherical shape. Begin by sketching a circle as the basic outline, then add the details: the stripes on a melon, the red seeds of a pomegranate, or the textured surface of a pineapple. This type of drawing is simple and perfect for children. The difficulty level is easy, and it’s suitable for kids aged 8 and above. You can color these drawings using pencils, crayons, markers, or watercolors.

Juicy Fruits

Fruits are not only delicious but also packed with nutrients. Some are sweet, some are tangy, but everyone enjoys them. Fruits like apples, grapes, and pomegranates can also be turned into refreshing juices. Lemon juice, especially popular in summer, is rich in vitamin C, helping to keep us hydrated. Grapes can even be used to make wine. Practice drawing all these fruits in your sketchbook or art book. This activity is suitable for children aged 7 and above.

Vegetables

Vegetables are equally important for a healthy diet. Some can be eaten raw, while others are best cooked. For example, tomatoes, corn, and carrots are versatile and can be eaten either way. Fresh vegetables provide essential nutrients and minerals, supporting overall health and skin care—for instance, cucumber salad helps reduce dark circles under the eyes. Drawing vegetables is simple and ideal for kids aged six and above. Don’t forget to color them accurately to make the artwork lively.

An Apple a Day

Apples are delicious, juicy, and widely available. Their skin is red, and the inside is white, containing several brown seeds. Apples can be used to make juice or even vinegar. They are packed with minerals and nutrients. In the example above, the apple appears damaged by worms—always choose fresh fruits to avoid illness. Drawing an apple is very easy and suitable for children aged six and above.

Summer Fresh Fruits

During summer, when the sun is hot, staying hydrated is crucial. Fruits are an excellent natural source of water and essential nutrients, including vitamins and fibers. Enjoy fruits as they are or as fresh juices. Drawing summer fruits in your art or sketchbook is fun and simple. The difficulty level is easy, and this activity is recommended for children aged 7 and above. Bright colors will make your drawing even more vibrant and appealing.

Finding the Extraordinary in the Ordinary: A Birthday Weekend at Alpine Lakes High Camp

Finding the Extraordinary in the Ordinary: A Birthday Weekend at Alpine Lakes High Camp

For as long as I can remember, Jasper has called weekend getaways “holidays.” The second I start packing his overnight bag, he bounces over, eyes wide: “Are we going on a holiday?” Once we’re in the car, he announces proudly, “We are going on an adventure!” In his short life, Jasper has already checked off more adventures than many people do in a lifetime—hiking in Norway, cruising past Icelandic glaciers, kayaking in the ocean—and now, staying in an alpine hut joins that list. As parents of a young child, it’s tempting to leave him with grandparents when we travel. But in the end, he always adds an extra layer of joy, creativity, and pure happiness to our trips. At Alpine Lakes High Camp, Jasper threw himself into every moment: strutting around the grounds like a tiny explorer, curling up on the cabin bed with a stack of books, and tracing fresh snow tracks with his boots. On the drive home, he summed it up perfectly: “Let’s go back to the cabin!”
